YouTube Response

YouTube has revolutionized the Internet as we know it. Still a new website, YouTube has advanced greatly since the first video post four years ago. We now have a new way of communication with each other that had never before been possible. Anyone and everyone can use YouTube for viewing or posting video material, so long as it’s not infringing on copyright. Everything about YouTube is user generated beyond just user content. YouTube virtually makes anyone with a video camera a reporter, and can be responsible for a person’s popularity which can be either negative or positive. Iconic figures in the world such as the President, Queen, and Pope now all have their own channels on YouTube. The main change that occurred with YouTube once it was purchased by Google is the advertising. YouTube has more professional content on the Internet than any other website.

One of YouTube’s initial problems was that they did not have many users. Another problem arose when they were having issues with their users publishing copyrighted material, which they got in trouble for. YouTube got started by some guys that wanted to take video material and post it on the web more easily. YouTube uses “flash video” which makes this uploading of video much more basic and straight forward for users. Users don’t have to download new software to use YouTube. Once YouTube got started, the growth was exponential and still is. YouTube is the first website of their kind, explaining some of their popularity. YouTube executives take down copyrighted material within 2-3 hours of being up. Other videos removed are those that are over ten minutes in length. Today YouTube is one of the most popular sites on the Internet. Although certain big time companies are complaining about YouTube, a lot of them have welcomed the hit site with open arms. The Internet audience is huge, and invariably helps these shows and broadcasters in the long run.

I like how you mentioned youtube as a means of communication because, while is clearly does that, not many people would immediately think of it in that manner, especially people who aren’t really computer savvy or company managers who aren’t able to see the possible effects the site could have on their business.
